Jessica Bryant, aws, nwws (b. 1977)

Picture
Passionate about nature and wilderness, Jessica is frequently found in the less traveled areas of our National Parks, the waterways of North Idaho, and other wilderness areas. Her work is driven by her attraction to the natural world and the ways that land anchors human culture, defining our history and experiences. Jessica has served eight terms as Artist in Residence for the National Park Service. Parks served include Badlands, Rocky Mountain, Joshua Tree, and the Western Arctic National Parklands. The Western Arctic is a grouping of three National Park Service units located north of the Arctic Circle, not frequented by visitors, where Jessica journeyed into the back country by float and bush planes to explore on foot. She has also visited the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness Area in southwest Idaho as Artist in Residence for the Bureau of Land Management and she served as the 2018 Artist in Residence for the Idaho Conservation League. Jessica is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and Northwest Watercolor Society and has been teaching classes and workshops since 2009.

Recent national and international exhibits include the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America, Richeson75, the Global Association of Watercolor Artists, and the Northwest Watercolor Society. Jessica’s work can be found in a number of magazines, including Watercolor Artist, Southwest Art, L’Art de L’Aquarelle, and Art Chowder. She has also been featured in two of the Splash: The Best of Watercolor series–Splash 17: Inspiring Subjects and Splash 22: The Creative Spark.

A dedication to conservation and wilderness anchor Jessica’s life and work. She is a current board member of the Tubbs Hill Foundation, an organization charged with the responsibility of protecting Tubbs Hill, a 165-acre natural park nestled along Lake Coeur d’Alene in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In addition to regularly painting this gem, she has worked to engage local youth in the park and its preservation through guided drawing classes in the field and the creation of an educational activity booklet. A patch of lakeshore forest existing in an urban setting, this park provides an excellent and unique opportunity to promote stewardship of our outdoor heritage. Jessica paints and teaches workshops on the road and from her studio in downtown Coeur d'Alene, ID.
