Colt Idol (b.1992) - The new face of the old west
"A time that no longer exists merging with a time that is dynamic in its use of color, form, texture, space, and light. ‘The West’ as we know it from history no longer exists, but ‘the West’ in this new age allows an opportunity to bring old and new to life. Whether landscape, wildlife or western, my work is emotionally charged through fearless color, tenacious light, and a divergence in contrast. My artistic endeavors are inspired by the history that’s right behind us, and the cultures of our ancestors that lived on the very land we live today. My artistic expression lies in highlighting a timeless, symbolic, and ambient West of old, to this new daring and vibrant era in which we live today." -Colt Idol
Colt Idol was born in Bigfork, Montana. He was raised there until he moved to Whitefish, Montana just before high school. Most of his early years were spent outdoors hiking, fishing and camping. In high school his life shifted to sports, primarily basketball and track and field. Colt was all-state three years in a row for both basketball and track. He was a state champion high jumper and holds every scoring record for basketball in Whitefish, Montana. In 2009 Colt was committed to playing basketball for the Montana State Bobcats but before the season started he tore his ACL. After numerous surgeries he decided enough was enough and turned his focus to his art. Colt spent his days at home painting with his Dad, Dick Idol, a well known personality in the outdoor and hunting world, as well as a painter and sculptor.
Colt progressed quickly and from August of 2011 has been represented in galleries in Montana, including "Dick Idol Signature Gallery" in Whitefish, Montana. We have previously shown Colt's work in our Miniatures by the Lake Show. Colt also has been featured in Southwest Art as one of the Top 21 Under 30, Western Art Collector, and is a crowd favorite at the annual C.M. Russell Auction.
