Bob Barlow is the son of a pioneer ranching family and educated at the Art Institute of Chicago.
His love of travel in Africa and Europe continues to inspire his work. Having most recently returned from the Sahara and also Western Cape of South Africa, his focus is mainly on the landscape of the Western United States and Canada.
Museums, galleries, private collections and publications offer a glimpse of Bob Barlow's on-the-spot and studio paintings. From canyons to coastline, he is at home with his paintbrush.
Although Bob's passion is his painting, he finds time to read books from his own vast studio-library. He always looks forward to socializing with friends, events, reunions and celebrations with family and an evening on the dance floor!
Bob Barlow claims both Wyoming and Montana, where he maintains residence and studio.
“Art has been a part of my life since I was ten. My first easel was built for me by my father, styled after an illustration he had seen in a book. The easel he built lasted until I discovered a French one. The late Mike Maier’s Pochade box has since been my outdoor tool for hundreds of paintings.
Oil painting is not easy and requires constant study. It is important to always be learning. Wherever I travel in this world, I find inspiration.
My life has been rich with family, friends and supporters! To all who have believed in my work, made possible my travels, and helped me live a wonderful life, I say, ‘Thank you.’"
