Borein, Edward 1872 - 1945
Edward Borein was born in San Leandro, California and lived most of his adult life in Santa Barbara. After working at odd jobs on a California ranch, he attended the San Francisco AA Art School for a short time where he met Maynard Dixon. He traveled extensively, painting ad sketching his way throughout the West and Mexico.
In 1904 he rented a studio in Oakland and began a successful career as an illustrator. His studio became a gathering place for Western artists while in California with C.M. Russell, Olaf Seltzer, Will James, and many others frequently paying visits. He married in 1921 and moved to Santa Barbara where he remained until his death in 1945.
